Overview

The relationship between Liverpool and Birmingham began through economic contacts facilitated by their International Business Fair. Business contacts between Southern Research, UAB, Innovation Depot and local business have highlighted this relationship. In one of our major exchanges, Liverpool gave us a “Lambanana” as a symbol of their city and Birmingham returned the favor with “Groovy” the Vulcan replica!

With the fifth-largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom, Liverpool is renowned for their arts, most notably as the homeplace of the Beatles. The city follows only London for their number of art galleries and national museums. In 2007, the city celebrated its 800th anniversary, and was named the European Capital of Culture the following year.
